JFT Watersport has been renting sailing boats and sloops in Friesland since 1997
On 4 December 1997, Fokko Terpstra went to the Chamber of Commerce in Leeuwarden to found Jachtverhuur F. Terpstra. Fokko has been on the water since his childhood. In an Optimist with VWDTP on the Paterswoldsemeer as a small boy, and later, in the Brandsma fishing boats of the Zeeverkenners Bestevaer in Haren. As a student, he bought the Oceaan 22 “Sirocco.”
This Oceaan 22 moored in the port of Stella Nova in Heeg in 1997. Here, the idea of renting out this boat arises. Berths were available in the harbour; the idea of starting his own business was born. Time for action: off to the local Rabobank in the old mini, arrange for money, and buy boats. The fleet starts with 4 cabin sailing boats: his own Oceaan 22 Sirocco as well as an Oceaan 18, Conrad 760, and a Jeanneau Fantasia 27.
The rental fleet grew steadily, as additional boats were regularly purchased. In 2004, Fokko and Emily meet, and before long, the company is run by two. The name Jachtverhuur F. Terpstra is changed into JFT Watersport. In 2006, the fleet moves to Sneek. In Sneek, not only the fleet, but the family is extended: Fokko and Emily have three children in the following years, all boys.
Today, the company is run as a modern family business. The port and rental are led by Fokko & Emily Terpstra. At the port, several permanent staff, interns, and grandpa are present. The fleet consists of 50 boats: cabin sailing boats, open sailing boats, and sloops.
